Service Dog Temperament Test


  • Our puppy temperament test covers essential behaviors a puppy should have in order to succeed in service work. Click the button to prepare for the test!

From puppy obedience all the way to public access


  • The adult temperament test covers behaviors an adult dog needs in order to succeed in service work. It is mildly stricter than the puppy test.

What gear do i bring to class?

Bring your dog with whatever gear you typically use on a daily basis. We do have a few ground rules, however:

  • Bring a treat pouch and treats!

  • We do not allow martingale-type harnesses like the easy walk or T-shaped harnesses due to the long-term damage they cause on the joints and muscles. If you need help shopping for harnesses, email us at starassistancedogs@outlook.com

  • For safety purposes, we will require slimline dogs such as Doberman, sight hounds and similar breeds come in on a martingale or 3-strapped harness. They are at higher risk for collar and harness slipping.

  • We will not use head collars (gentle leaders) on dogs who cannot walk on a leash properly; this could damage the neck and spine.

  • For group training classes, we require Bordetella, Distemper and Rabies vaccines. They must have been administered at least 48 hours prior to class.

  • For private coaching, we require your dog to be up to date on all legally required vaccines, such as Rabies.

  • For board and train clients, we require them to be up to date on Rabies and Distemper, as well as being on current flea and tick treatment.

Service dog Certification

$300 for the public access test plus a letter verifying and vetting that they are fully trained via this program, a vest with our logo on it and business cards with your service dog’s face on them with ADA information on the back to hand out.

There is no official registry or certifications in the USA, however your job may ask for a letter from your dog’s trainer alongside your doctor’s note. We can provide that for you after verifying they are fully prepared for public access.
